Lowered Wages may Be The Norm For The Formerly Employed

A recent national study has forced me to admit what little jobs being created in Florida are low wage menial McJobs.

The jobs tragically robbed from the sunny paradise of Florida, by a global recession we locally are in no way accountable for, are not being replaced with good paying jobs. The few jobs we create pay on average $15,000 less then the handful of jobs being lost in the sunshine state.

It is a little misleading to say “jobs created” as the number of unemployed keeps rising and we are loosing jobs overall. I mean the guy laid off from a $60,000 job is lucky after a year plus of job hunting to find work for $45,000. Well, even that is misleading, the average job opening is at about $13 an hour or $28,000 a year.

This is a big duh to those of us in the know. White collar college educated workers have been abandoning our sunny beaches in droves for many years due to the lack of economic stability and mobility in Tampa Bay.

Evan as we create lousy jobs and loose high value workers economic development leaders are insisting on touting imaginary high-paying industry clusters as the key to our emerging future of sunshine paradise.

Florida and Tampa Bay have always based our economy on sun, cheap labor, lack of both government oversight and unions. As our labor force becomes cheaper and less educated we can return to our roots and build on that again.

Even though the economic leaders I regularly suck-up to have overseen this debacle they are now instructing me to blame Governor Scott, the rail-killing bastard, for creating lousy jobs.

Logically those responsible for economic development in Florida will blame the Governor for their own failures to remove him as an obstacle to their continuing business as usual.

So there it is Governor, your fault they destroyed the economy before you were elected.
