Jackboy Labs A Bad Deal for Sarasota
The initial celebration over Sarasota “winning”, really stealing, the biotech expansion of Maine based Jackboy Labs is fading and now faces a huge battle to convince the mean and evil-rail killer Gov. Scott to use $100 million of state funds to support the deal.
Scott’s brief record of evil administration since January, centered upon killing the beloved saintly rail project, shows this is a tough sell. Far tougher if it had been properly relocated to Tampa, the center of the universe and only part of the bay area which truly matters, where it rightfully belongs.
State law requires the fund governing $1.6 billion invested in bio-science labs around Florida be able to recoup that investment within 20 years but the additional sales and taxes created by the project.
Sarasota officials are confident they meet those requirement, but funny thing about the economic analysis’ which I tout often, you can tweak the underlying assumptions and make them say anything. We do it all the time here in Tampa.
Were this a Tampa project I would whole heartedly support it, and never ask meaningful probing questions, I would do my duty to refute the nay-sayers. Since this is not a deal for Tampa clearly it is a bad, unworkable deal based on corrupt data. Clearly the only way Tampa could loose if Sarasota were to have cheated.
Hillsborough County studied the matter and valued the direct benefit of Jackboy Labs at only $87 million yet still continued to try to lure the labs here. It we can not make it profitable here in Tampa with out vastly over inflated egos and social prominence how could Sarasota, our near-do well cousin do better? It is unimaginable as we are the center of the universe.
Hillsborough and Tampa campaigned for a money loosing deal, so Sarasota must be doing the same, they must operate with the same level of incompetence and cronyism which Tampa is based upon.
Clearly our idea and desire to relocate Jack Boy Labs to Tampa was a bad idea but taking it to Sarasota is even worse. I will not waste your time explaining why I supported a proven bad idea or continue to be a sore looser about it.
Clearly Sarasota is bad, Tampa is good. We want Jack Boy Labs and will bad mouth this plan until we kill it.
